Groves Literacy Partnerships Literacy Leader Maggie Rowan

Maggie RowanMaggie Rowan is a Coach Manager and Literacy Coach with Groves Literacy Partnerships

Groves Literacy Partnerships is developing literacy leaders in our local schools.

When a school partners with Groves Literacy Partnerships (GLP) to advance literacy instruction, the goal is to change the culture of literacy in the building and ensure that the hard work and learning become self-sustaining. Key to this process are the Groves Literacy Partnerships Literacy Coaches.

What is your role at Groves Literacy Partnerships?

I am the Literacy Coach Manager, Literacy Coach, and Curriculum Writer. I have been with GLP for five years.

What is your educational background?

I have a BA in Elementary Education from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth with a K-12 media specialist licensure. I also have a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University.

Why do you choose to work at GLP?

I wanted the chance to help teachers be better instructors. Teachers work incredibly hard with everything that they do to support their students. I wanted a chance to support them in that important work.

What do you appreciate about working at GLP?

Watching teachers change and grow in their instructional practice as they gain a deeper understanding of reading instruction. I enjoy seeing how they can then impact the lives of their students, supporting and finding students with a higher level of need.

What is your favorite science of reading resource?

I have repeatedly read and referenced David Kilpatrick’s book Equipped for Reading Success. I continue to support teachers by showing them the information on compensators and how they are often hidden from us by their ability to make it appear as if they can read. I also love Stanislas Dehaene’s book about Reading and the Brain because understanding science has made a difference in knowing how to support students.
